History
In 1965, Mary and Lewis Cramer's dried flower hobby got out of control and became a small business. They produced flowers commercially for 20 years before retiring. During this time, their son Ralph grew dried flowers as a part time venture. In 1985, Ralph started Cramers' Posie Patch with 10 acres of production, one old tractor and a lot of hope. The business grew rapidly and in 1991, Ralph's son Keith joined Cramers' Posie Patch. Fresh cut flowers were first sold in 1994 but it wasn't until 1998 that marketing fresh flowers became an important part of the business. The production area for the year 2000 totaled 47 acres and sales are equally split between fresh and dried. Ralph Cramer has served on the board of the International Herb Growers and Marketers Association and the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers. In 1996, he was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from the ASCFG. He has introduced and helped popularize several new varieties to the trade and takes a special interest in finding new, old, overlooked or unusual plants. Many of the seeds placed in the ASCFG seed trials by Cramers have done well when evaluated by other growers. Dried flowers are sold directly to the consumer through this web site, at our farm store and at the prestigious Philadelphia Flower Show every March, but the majority are sold wholesale to retailers, crafters and manufacturers. To find new wholesale customers, we exhibit at wholesale gift trade shows including the New York International Gift Fair, the Philadelphia Gift Show and the Market Square Cash and Carry Shows. We maintain wholesale dried customer contact with a monthly newsletter and price list during summer, bi-monthly the remainder of the year. Look at our article in Martha Stewart Living, November 2000 issue. Fresh flowers are sold to wholesale florists only, with the brand name "Lancaster County Fresh". If you're in the mid-Atlantic or upstate NY area and use fresh flowers in your business (or have a florist friend that does), call us and we'll tell you where you can buy some tall, unusual and very fresh flowers. We sell a limited selection of seeds to other commercial growers and seed companies. The "Cramer Collection" seeds are from crops that are profitable for us but mostly aren't commercially available anywhere else. Some are exclusively ours, some are better selections of common plants, some are difficult to grow but all work well for us. Click on sseds for more information. We sell all of our flowers with a money-back guarantee and have from day one! They're guaranteed, period. We're proud of our products but if you're not happy with them, tell us. If you are happy with them, tell everybody else. This company was founded on the principal that it's good business to treat customers and employees the way we would like to be treated. As a result, our core group of employees have each worked here well over a decade and we have some customers that have been around longer than that!
